Findings + Reasoning:
The court heard that the defendant, a probationary LSPD officer, was found in possession of a .50AE pistol with an extended magazine of unknown origins attached to it as the result of a lawful frisk conducted by Deputy Gall. The court ruled that despite the handgun being legally registered to the defendant, that modification of said firearm with otherwise illegal attachments did transform said firearm into an illegal firearm thus meeting the criteria for the charges.
Further, the court found that the defendant's status as a law enforcement officer, in the specifics of this case, did not offer any protections that may otherwise be afforded to officers who are carrying duty-issued weapons.
